Casey asked: Hi. I recently just got my first credit card ever and used it to make a $1600 purchase. The credit limit is $3000, so obviously I’m over 50% of the balance, and I just learned that’s bad for credit scores. I expect to be able to pay off the purchase in the next two or three months. Will my credit score go back up immediately after I get the balance on my card down, or will it take a while? Thanks.

Shannon B asked: When you are trying to lease an apartment, what are the main things they are looking for on your credit history in order for an approval? Are they interested in all of your credit card bills and other payments or are they mainly concerned with your rental history and bankruptcy background?

Rhema C. asked: My two older children (early twenties) are trying to get a credit card, but most companies require that you already have credit with someone else. How do you go about establishing credit if you can’t get credit?
I don’t like credit cards either, but there will come a day they will want to purchase a car or house and will need a credit rating.

flori0009 asked: I have years of excellent on-time rental history, however I have no credit because I’ve never been in debt (always pay bills on time) go figure. I was wondering which credit cards I could apply for, for the first time. Wal-Mart Credit card rejected me because I have no credit, and I’m just looking for something small so I can put things on the card and pay them off quickly to establish some sort of credit. Any suggestions?

JNate asked: I own a small business which often takes credit card numbers over the phone as a deposit. We recently had a customer no show, and she contested through her credit card company when we charged her (she claims it wasn’t explained when she gave us her #). The credit card company took her side and said it is policy to allow anyone contesting to get their money back if there is no signature. How can this be? So many hotels and services take card #’s as deposits!
