how is online credit card purchasing safe?most websites just require the card no expiry date and cvv nos?

tellme asked:

all this imformation is present on the card. and can easily be stolen(copied)by say an employee at a store when you make a payment.he then can make online transactions.why is there no special password which is not written on the card. and even in stores how can one verify that the signatures you give on the card are yours.
my question here is that why doesnt the company provide a special password.it can certainly save lot of money

Its safe because all major credit cards now protect you against online fraud, so should something shady happen you’ll get your money back, something that can’t happen with paypal or cash!

The credit card transaction is safe for the card holder, because you can dispute a charge.

The card company will take the side of the card holder over a merchant if there is no clear preponderence of the evidence for one party or the other.

Unless the card holder clearly commits a fraud, he has no liability in such matters.
