How do I build/repair my credit score?

Friday, November 13th, 2009
erin.danu asked:

I have very limited credit history. I started this January. I read that I have to get a few credit cards to build credit history. I have a secured card from Citibank which only has 200 credit limit. A Citibank secured loan for 500. Bank of America gave me 4000 CL for A Worlpoints Platinum Plus Credit Card. I have a ChaseFreedom Mastercard too. Thing is I’m preparing my credit history for a car loan. I applied for other credit cards in one day and got a few rejections… reason being having too much inquiry ( ok, i know i should have not made too many applications but i figured to just do it all at the same time) and too low credit line. But I never missed a payment, I only use 30% of my credit line and pay off more than the minimun balance.
Questions :
How bad will these inquiries affect my chances of a car loan?
How many months should I wait to have this fixed?
How can I increase my credit score?

Thanks! :-)

Why would a secured line of credit be denied?

Jen M asked:

My fiance mailed out an application and $300 money order to USBank for a secured credit card yesterday. We were just curious if the bank could deny him, and if so, what would be some reasons? The bottom of the application says that it will be denied if the applicant is under the age of 18 or has filed bankruptcy, but are there other reasons he could be denied?

If I don’t activate my credit card that I applied for, will it automatically be closed?

I applied for a credit card online…I received it, and decided that I didn’t really want it as the fees are just too high….It states that after 14 days tf the card is not activated, the card will be closed….I am assuming that unless you activate a credit card, it is like the account is never opened correct? Thanks…

I am currently 15, and have wanted to be an owner/operater truck driver all my life. I would like to know what the best credit card and online money management system would be the best. I’ve been looking at the American Express TrueEarnings Business Card and was wondering if that would be a good card to use for trucking. Also, could someone tell me how much an I-Pass costs?

Thanks.

Cosigner for a credit card?

irobot10 asked:

I am an immigrant (green card) resident of the US. I own my house and have excellent credit rating. My wife recently got her green card and SSN. We asked our local bank for a secured credit card so that she can build her credit. The bank refused the application and demanded that they need a US citizen to cosign for my wife’s credit card, even if we are asking for a card that is secured by our checking account with the same bank. This is absurd because we have joint accounts with this bank from last 5-6 years and have healthy deposits. They wouldnt even let me add her to my existing credit card! We dont know aany US citizen who will cosign for us but thats besides the point anyway. Can the bank discriminate like this?

If a online thief gets a hold of your credit/debit card # online, do they have access to your DL# or SS#?

imagineworldwide asked:

I recently used my debit card to do a couple of online purchases, and suddenly there were 3 transactions worth over $1500 I didn’t make and I’m quite shaken up over it. My bank brought it to my attention and thankfully I was able to cancel my debit card and get re-issued a new one.

I have always been protective of my account and personal information and my online shopping has been quite sporadic. I’m at a loss at how this could have happened.

The question is now, is it possible that this is the end of my problem, or could these thieves have gained further information from me beyond my debit card number?

Where can I get a secured credit card?

MedeivelReign asked:

I’m 25 and never had a credit card. I get denied for the regular card, and my bank doesn’t do secured credit cards… I’m a full time student and got turned down for the student card as well. I’ve seen applications online for secured cards that always ask for employer and salary. But I’m a student and would like to use some of my loans to start up some good credit. I’d only use it to pay for utilities and normal things, then pay it off each month.
Where can a student get a secured card?
